The Art and Craft of Short Stories (with Viv McDade)
This workshop is designed for anyone drawn to short stories and interested in writing them. You will learn how to identify sources of inspiration and shape the stories you want to write. Through a variety of structured writing activities and the exploration of the techniques of great short stories, you will learn some of the essentials of short stories. You'll build the confidence and skills necessary to write and revise at least one story during the course and give useful and supportive feedback to others. You will learn how to prepare manuscripts for competitions and publications and be given suggestions for where to submit them.

About the teacher
Viv McDade was born in Ireland, grew up in Zimbabwe and lived in South Africa and The Netherlands before returning to Ireland. An English and Psychology Honours graduate, she was Head of English Department at Hillside Teacher Training College in Zimbabwe, before moving into management and consultant roles in South African and European organisations. After her return to Ireland, she completed an M.Phil in Creative Writing at Trinity College. Her stories have been read on radio and published in literary journals and anthologies, most recently the Faber Book of New Irish Short Stories, edited by Joseph O'Connor, and New Irish Writing in The Irish Independent. She lives in Dublin and is working on a collection of short stories.
